What is a failure? Lack of success? If you choose to believe that, well… that’s what it is. I don’t believe in failure. I believe it’s a word invented by people who didn’t want to learn from their experience and keep ongoing. You never fail until you stop trying. We mentioned Edison a few times and his 10,000 failed attempts to light a bulb. Do you know what his answer was? “I learned 10,000 ways that didn’t work”.
When you started to walk…your mind learned a few ways that didn’t work, and perseverance took you to success. You didn’t fail a test in school… you actually didn’t prepare for the test, but if you went back and learned some more, you got a pass at re-examination. You didn’t fail in life, you learned, and you learned a lot. The only thing you can fail at… is not trying.
You are not where you want to be because you never tried, and if you tried, why did you give up? Edmund Hillary, the first man to reach the top of Everest turned around 2 times before he succeeded, but he didn’t accept failure, he learned something new and tried again, and again until he succeeded. He didn’t care that nobody ever done this before, he kept going back until he succeeded because he believed he could. He didn’t fail, because he never gave up.
Unfortunately, our minds record not only experiences of ours but also excuses of other people as well. Through the same principle of repetition, if you hear a lie often enough, you end up believing it is true and mind creates an image of limitation. The ones that tried and gave up will never admit they failed; they will say it’s impossible! And if you ask, they will say “you can’t do it!”, but they don’t know what You can do, they only know that they couldn’t do it. They only state their limitations. But if your mind hears it often enough, ends up believing it, and if you let your mind control your life, well that’s the life you’ll live.
People used to say “the earth is flat” and everybody believed it until proven differently; that “you can’t fly” before the Wright brothers… people hear around them a statement often enough and create a reality… their reality, but that doesn’t have to be your reality. You have the power to create your own reality and through your belief that reality becomes other people’s reality.
When you surround yourself with limited people, you listen to their stories and you end up believing in their limits because they lived among people who told them about these limits. You probably heard of the expressions like “remember your limits” or “know your place”. These people live in the fear of being proven wrong if you succeed and they will do whatever it takes to keep you “within your limits”. Only those who dare to question the limits manage to break the barriers of limitation and achieve more than their peers.
When you surround yourself with “unlimited” people, you hear different stories, your mind starts believing these stories and you start believing it’s not that hard to be successful, it’s actually quite easy to make money and it’s easy to live the life you want… it’s natural because they believe it and live it.
It’s not hard to think unlimited, what it’s hard is changing your belief. The resistance to change is what holds you from changing your mind. A child doesn’t have an opinion other than what it was given to him/her by the peers. If you tell a child that the world is an unlimited potential to be, do, and have whatever you want, they will believe it as being true and their belief will manifest accordingly. What we have to do instead is unlearn what we know and relearn what serves us better, so let go of your old beliefs and create a new belief empowered by the knowledge: there is no limitation, there is abundance of everything, anything is possible and you can be whatever you want to be.
Both, limited and unlimited thinking, feel natural, but one doesn’t feel good. We can’t choose where we are born and until a certain age, we can’t choose the life we live either. But, there is a point in life when you discover that you do have a choice. You can choose to fit in the world you were born into, or you can choose to move on. You can choose to see failure because others tell you so, or you can choose to keep trying until you succeed.
I believe we both can agree you want to succeed, so give up your old belief but don’t give up on your dream… keep going! think big!
