In order to achieve anything in life, we need 3 ingredients: a mental picture of the goal, action towards it, and faith that it is achievable. Everybody in this world can create a mental picture, some, pushed by desire act on it, but only a few have the faith that their goal is achievable. Saying: “I’ll give it a try” means you lack faith in your goal’s realization. Nothing can be achieved without faith. You stand up because you know you can’t walk. You eat because you know it keeps you alive and you drink water because you know that’s what you need to kill your thirst. The farmer doesn’t plant seeds if he doesn’t know he will reap later.

Faith is “knowing” that the action you’re going to take has the result that you seek before you’ve achieved it; it is the element that determines the action of your subconscious mind. Charles F. Haanel says: “Faith is the Substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” and calls it “the Confident Expectation” in his book The Master Key System.

The Faith in your action is usually based on experience. When you stand up to walk you know you can because you’ve done it before; the farmer plants the seeds because he’s done it before or he saw somebody else reaping the crop, so literally, what we actually do in our life is repeating the same thing over and over again, or simply duplicating the actions of others, hoping for the same results. But our goal is not the same as others’. We are unique beings and we should express that freely.

Napoleon Hill, in his book, Think and Grow Rich, which was written after 20 years of research and interviews of over 500 successful people in America said:

Faith is the ‘eternal elixir’ which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought (…)

Faith is the starting point of all accumulation of riches!

Faith is the basis of all ‘miracles’, and all mysteries which cannot be analyzed by the rules of science!

Faith is the only known antidote for Failure!

Faith is the element, the ‘chemical’ which, when mixed with prayer, gives one direct communication with Infinite Intelligence.

Faith is the element which transforms the ordinary vibration of thought, created by the finite mind of man, into the spiritual equivalent.

Faith is the only agency through which the cosmic force of Infinite Intelligence can be harnessed and used by man.”

So, how can we harness the necessary faith for our goal? “Faith is a state of mind which may be induced by auto-suggestion (…) It is a well known fact that one comes, finally, to believe whatever one repeats to one’s self, whether the statement be true or false. If a man repeats a lie over and over, he will eventually accept the lie as truth. Moreover, he will believe it to be the truth. Every man is what he is, because of the dominating thoughts which he permits to occupy his mind. (…) Thoughts which are mixed with any of the feelings of emotions, constitute a magnetic force which attracts, from the vibrations of the ether, other similar, or related thoughts.” Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich.

A lot of my knowledge about success comes out of this book and for me, it is a manual to which I go back over and over, and I strongly recommend you get it for your library as well, whether it’s physical or virtual. I also have it on Audible and listen to it whilst driving or walking.

It’s not easy to imagine we can be healthy, successful, rich, or having wonderful relationships when our mind keeps looking in the past pointing out it’s impossible. Those are past facts! they happened, and they can only repeat again through our acknowledgment and repetition. Albert Einstein said: “Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting different results” We’re always going to have the same life if we keep on doing the same things. We have to believe that we can change our life simply by changing the way we do daily things, habits… our routine.

The belief we have is most of the time Not our belief. It’s the belief of the people we surround ourselves with. Our parents/ tutors passed on their beliefs to us and we accepted them as they are because we have faith in them, that’s not our belief, that’s an inherited belief. The point I want to make is: their life is a result of their belief and if you accept the same beliefs you’ll live the same life. If you want to live better, to have happier relationships, more money, and security then what they had, you must change your beliefs. Some of the beliefs that hold us back from growing are:

  • money doesn’t grow in trees
  • you have to work hard to earn money
  • if I get rich other people will get poor
  • there is no such thing as a happy marriage
  • the wedding band is a shackle
  • rich people are evil
  • money is evil

When your mind is inundated by these kinds of beliefs there is no way on earth you can become rich or happy, because your subconscious mind will always hold you back, so you must change your beliefs to serve your goals and visions. How you do that? Take each statement that doesn’t serve your purpose and write it down on a piece of paper. Once you’ve completed the list, take another piece of paper and write down the opposite of those statements in a positive description (i.e. “you have to work hard to earn money” can’t be “you don’t have to work hard…” it would be “money are coming to me easily and frequently”, “it’s easy for me to earn money”, people are queuing up to give me money”) After you’ve completed your list of positive statements, take the other list and burn it, or shred it – it’s a symbol of not believing in those statements. From the new list take 1 or 2 statements and for 21 days write down the statement 10 times in the morning and 10 times in the evening, then take the next statement and so on.

Only by changing what you put your faith in, your entire life will start changing.
