“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies… the man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin
Reading is a fantastic exercise and it helps the brain expand. “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”, said Joseph Addison. The biggest advantage of reading is the accumulation of knowledge, and knowledge gives us power, makes us aware of facts, builds trust and confidence. There is no such thing as too much knowledge. You can never say you know too much, knowing will give you the chance to take an “informed” decision at all times.
When you hear about a certain thing, you do some reading about it. When you want to find out how to do a thing, you read into it, you educate yourself on that thing, you want to know more about it. Lack of knowledge will only limit your ability to make decisions. Do not mix up reading with studying. Reading is merely an accumulation of knowledge, while studying involves understanding. Reading the same book once will give you an idea. Reading it twice will give you 2 ideas. How many ideas do you want to extract from a book? The fact is the more you read, your awareness expands and the second time you read the same book you read it with a different awareness. When you read for the first time it’s like looking through the window from the first floor of a building towards east. When you read the second time, you’re already on the second floor, and even though you’re looking towards the east, the angle is different and the view is slightly different. When you get to the top floor, the view is almost completely different.
At the time of writing this, I have two books that I am studying: The Science of Getting Rich – which I’ve been reading/ listening for more than 15 times and Think and Grow Rich – which I’ve been reading/listening for more than 10 times. I treat them as manuals and I study them constantly. Every time I read them I find a different idea, I see a different perspective and I can’t wait to finish it to start it over again.
Because of its importance, our parents sent us to school. Because of its importance, governments from most countries choose to offer it for free through access to public schools and libraries. Only an ignorant can say “I know all and I’m not interested in other opinions”. Only an ignorant can choose to believe they know better. Ignorance is one of the biggest enemies of success and the killer of dreams. No ignorant has ever achieved success in this world.
I want to encourage you to read more. If you don’t like reading, or you don’t have time for reading, I suggest audiobooks. Either way, you must gain knowledge if you want to create success in your life. In the evening when you go to sleep, rather than reading negative news, read a good book. Rather than watching what people are doing on social media, watch a motivational movie. Replace the habits that bring you nothing, with habits that create wealth, and when I say wealth I don’t mean money, I mean health, happiness, love, and riches. I read every day, if I’m driving, I’m listening through Audible a good book. Anything that doesn’t help you grow can be replaced with reading/ listening to a good book.
And don’t worry if you don’t know what to read, because I’m more than happy to share the best titles I’ve read through my Resource Store. And you can access this at any time from any page you are on my website. Every time I finish a good book I add it on, so keep an eye out all the time. I will never recommend something I didn’t like or something that doesn’t give me confidence it’s worth your time.
Or simply feel free to read anything else you want because the whole idea is for you to grow through knowledge and this knowledge will stay with you anywhere you go and will help you make informed decisions. But please choose from these 2 categories: 1)it helps you succeed in your job/ business, or 2) it helps you become a better person. Make it a habit to read every day.
Thank you for reading.
Love and Peace!
